Ranier Bonnici

Ranier Bonnici is an education technology specialist with over 20 years of experience in ICT, research, and vocational education. After starting his career as a technical consultant, he moved into academia, contributing to research at the University of Malta before joining MCAST as a lecturer and later Institute Vocational Coordinator.

His work focuses on integrating digital tools and AI into teaching and institutional practice, developing practical, scalable solutions that enhance learning outcomes across formal and applied education settings.

He holds a Master’s in ICT, a Master’s in Knowledge-Based Entrepreneurship, a PGC in VET, and is a Microsoft-certified AI Engineer.

Mary Rose Formosa

Mary Rose Formosa is an education and youth development practitioner specialising in inclusive learning, metacognition, and research-informed practice. Her work spans youth work, formal and non-formal education, with a strong focus on “learning to learn” as a core lifelong competence.

As a warranted youth worker and Erasmus+ project leader, she has designed and managed initiatives promoting inclusive pedagogy, reflective learning, and capacity-building for young people, including those with specific learning difficulties. She advocates for equitable access to education and learner autonomy.

Mary Rose holds a Master’s in Teaching and Learning and a Postgraduate Diploma in Research Methods, bridging educational theory and practice to advance inclusive and impactful learning.

Erasmus+ Projects

EU4Dual

EU4Dual is a European University alliance developing a transnational dual-education model that combines academic study with structured workplace training to better align higher education with labour-market needs.

Ranier contributed to the development of the course catalog and the ideas funnel, and represented the team in meetings locally and abroad.

Get Up - Gender Equality Training

Get Up – Gender Equality Training is an EU-supported initiative aimed at promoting gender equality through structured training, awareness-raising, and capacity-building activities that address bias, inclusion, and equal opportunities.

Ranier was tasked with developing the VLE for the project, which involved making available the training materials and setting workflows for the achievement of certification.

YouNG Goes Further

Young Goes Further is an Erasmus+-funded project that strengthens entrepreneurship education in secondary schools by equipping students and teachers with practical enterprise skills and inclusive learning tools.

Apart from being responsible for the project's online presence, Ranier was involved in several transnational activities, including the development of a the project report.

SEA-EU STup!

SEA-EU STup! is an entrepreneurship initiative within the SEA-EU alliance that supports student innovation and start-up development through mentoring, collaboration, and cross-border engagement among partner universities.

Ranier participated in the renowned STup! pitch deck competition where he proposed Evacuate, an innovative emergency evacuation software. The project was awarded first place.

Dyslexic Teens Dialogue

Dyslexic Teens Dialogue is an informal youth group from Malta that brings together young people with and without dyslexia to raise awareness about dyslexia, support peers, and build skills through youth‑led projects funded by the EU.

As the group founder, Mary Rose designed and managed a number of youth exchange and transnational youth initiative projects. One of the notable projects brought together mixed‑ability youth from Malta and Italy to explore learning practices, and to promote metacognitive approaches,

MCAST MIS

The MCAST Management Information System (MIS) is a comprehensive platform designed to support academic and administrative operations within the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST).

Ranier was responsible for the development of the system, which included admissions, attendance tracking, results management, and reporting functionalities.

Is-Sagħtar

Is-Sagħtar is a well-known, long-running Maltese educational magazine published by Fondazzjoni Sagħtar. Published monthly during the scholastic year (October to May), it features Maltese literature, educational articles, and, since 2020, is available digitally to encourage reading in schools and at home.

Ranier was trusted with the development of the foundation's multi-lingual membership website and e-shop.

EDEH AI Report

The EDEH AI Report provides guidance on integrating artificial intelligence into education, outlining key competencies, ethical considerations, and strategic recommendations for educators and institutions.

Ranier contributed to the report by providing insights on AI's role in enhancing educational outcomes and by reviewing relevant literature.
